Melanie Thomas first began practicing yoga twenty years ago for chronic pain management. After finding Yoga Power as a student, she began to move from healing into strengthening. Melanie completed her 200 hour teacher training from the Yoga Power School Class of 2022 as a means to commit her yoga practice to a life dedication to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. She completed the 300 hour yoga teacher training Yoga Power School Class of 2023.
 
She loves to encourage and inspire others along their individual journeys. She believes that anyone at any ability can walk in and take a class – anyone can do yoga!
 
Melanie was born in West Virginia, and received her Associate’s and Baccalaureate’s degrees in Letters, Arts and Sciences from Penn State University. She received her Master’s in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. Her career in public relations, international relations, and government service has given her the opportunity to travel extensively, but she is content and grateful for her home here in beautiful Charleston.
 
She is a softie for any animals (yes, even you spiders…), loves her friends and family, and enjoys her time best hiking or just being outdoors.

  • Yoga Sculpt
  • Yoga Sculpt is a yoga mat-based workout that adds free weights to a yoga sequence, intensifying each yoga pose while incorporating cardio and training exercises, such as squats, lunges, bicep and tricep curls to help you build lean muscle mass.

  • Yoga - Beginner
  • New to yoga? This class is a great place to start. Beginner Yoga is for students who have no prior knowledge of yoga and teaches:
    • In English terms only
    • No Sanskrit
    • Brief history of yoga
    • 6 main yoga poses
    • Use of props & modifications for beginners
    • Beginner breathing techniques
    • No arm balances or inversions
    The class emphasizes the fundamentals of a beginner yoga practice and will prepare students to confidently move into our First Level classes. You don’t need to be able to touch your toes; you just have to be willing to try!

  • INFRARED Yoga - All Levels
  • This class is offered in infrared heat. Arrive 15 minutes early to secure your spot on the floor. Heat is determined by how close to the infrared bulbs you position your mat. 

  • Lagree - All Levels
  • The Lagree Method is a high intensity, low impact workout that targets all major muscle groups through slow, controlled movements. Its unique combination of strength, endurance, and flexibility training has made it one of the most popular fitness regimens in the world.
     
     
    All Lagree classes have a minimum age limit of 16.
     
    Lagree is taught on either:
    (1) an elevated M3 MegaFormer loaded with an 6 spring system or
    (2) on MicroFormers which lay flat on the floor. We offer the same challenging exercises on both machines.

  • Retreat - Yoga & Art
  • Yoga and Art is a beautiful combination of movement and creativity.  
    An hour and a half long, with 30 minutes dedicated to yoga and 60 minutes to art you will get the best of both worlds!
     
    Taught by Jewels Whitely, RYT 500 and Art Teacher - you will be guided through both practices with kindness and love and you will create a beautiful masterpiece that you get to take home with you!
     
    Art supplies provided. Wear clothes that you can move in and can do art in.

  • Retreat - Yoga All Levels
  • Hatha yoga class taught to all levels of practitioners.  The teacher will give modifications for beginners and how to take the practice to the next level for advanced yogis.
